Is A Springfield 1911 A1 Same As The Range Officer

Taking a quick, closer look at my new addition to the family. The Range Officer is the newest in the Springfield Armory 1911 A1 lineup, and it’s a TON of ban

Aug 15, 2023My first 1911 was a stainless Springfield Range Officer in 9mm, which I love. One of my best shooting 1911s is a sub $500 Tisas Duty BR9. On the flip side, my 5inch Prodigy is an absolute beast at the range, while my .45 RO in is kind of meh. There is plenty of good advice on 1911s online read up a bit.

Another notable difference between the Springfield Range Officer 1911 and the A1 Loaded is their sights. The featured A1 has fixed low profile combat 3 dot sights. And while the Range Officer’s adjustable target black notch/blade sights are the same height as the A1’s, they are straighter, less hardy, and more likely to snag.

As the Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911 is designed for competitive shooting, I shot it offhand. At 15 yards, all three loads tested performed more than adequately for personal protection

Is A Springfield 1911 A1 Same As The Range Officer

As the Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911 is designed for competitive shooting, I shot it offhand. At 15 yards, all three loads tested performed more than adequately for personal protection The Range Officer comes with a flat matte parkerized finish (more on that below), or it can be had in stainless steel. Springfield aggressively marketed the Range Officer, and billed it as a competition-ready 1911, without the custom 1911 price tag. From a looks standpoint, SA nailed it with the RO. Everything about this gun exudes business.

The Springfield 1911A1 Mil-Spec would, one would think, be a straight reproduction of the iconic 1911A1 handgun as issued to the troops. But you’d be wrong. There are a number of things that keep it from being identical to the M1911A1 handgun of WWII (and earlier) fame. Two of the changes that separate the M1911 and M1911A1 are a shorter
